Best Shows On Television

I am addicted to prime time television. I thought about suing my TIVO for damage and reparations but I haven’t been able to catch it in the act of violating my mind. Besides, I’m fairly confident its the studios decision to release shows to DVD that has nurtured my love for television. My TIVO only picks up where my DVD collection leaves off.

Watching one season of a good television show is entirely more fulfilling than watching, well, most films. Because of it’s longevity a television show can explore characters and story arcs more completely. I assert that the common television viewer rarely catches every episode of a recurring show and therefore, often misses this exploration entirely. After all, not everyone can commit to sitting in front of their television at the same time every week. (Shame on you!) This is where DVDs step in. No longer do you have to scratch your head and muse, “What the heck happened to (insert character name), I thought he/she was (insert verb)!”

The following list consists of current television shows (not all of them are on DVD yet) I believe, for one reason or another, are worth viewing.

Current Television Shows:

  1. Dexter
  2. Eli Stone
  3. Eureka
  4. Family Guy
  5. House M.D.
  6. Lost
  7. Men In Trees
  8. Moonlight
  9. New Amsterdam
  10. October Road
  11. Private Practice
  12. Pushing Daisies
  13. Reaper
  14. Supernatural

Unlike the last list, this next list consists of shows currently available on DVD that have all ready reached their prime (which is a nice way of saying they were canceled or discontinued). As the old adage suggests, you should listen to your elders - or at least view them. Several of the current television shows I love draw heavily upon themes from these classics. If one of the shows listed below sounds unfamiliar to you, don’t be alarmed. This sort of short term memory loss can be explained by the advent of reality television and the diminishing attention span of people.

Discontinued Television Shows:

  1. Carnivale
  2. Dead Like Me
  3. Wonderfalls
  4. The Lost Room
  5. The 4400
  6. The X-Files
  7. Sex and the City
  8. Rome
  9. Gilmore Girls
  10. Taken
  11. Jericho

Disclaimer: Did I mention I like science fiction? I cannot hold myself responsible for this list. I was born an alien.
