Evolving Soundtrack

Particular albums or songs seem more relevant or poignant at different stages in life. So it seems a bit hypocritical for a child star to sing the lyrics, “signed, sealed, delivered, I’m yours.” Audiences applaud these pint-sized vocal powerhouses and I’m left thinking, do they have any idea what they’re singing about? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t believe that children shouldn’t sing, just that they should be singing age appropriate material. Music, more than anything, is about emotional connection - the ability to relate to one another in song. This is why children learn songs like “B-I-N-G-O” and “Old McDonald.” I doubt a five-year old feels any sort of emotional connection to more than half of Michael McDonald’s music. So it stands that if you can’t feel or understand the music, then you’re just a trained vocal monkey. Poor kids. My point being that music is a life experience and our tastes evolve as we do.
I am the type of person that, for whatever reason, listens to the same album(s) over and over again for a month (possibly two) and then I fire the artist(s). Its not that the album is any less wonderful than it once was, or that the singer has started singing like one of the disillusioned contestants from American Idol. Its that the direction of my life has changed and the songs no longer apply to my emotional condition. Then one day, feeling a tad nostalgic, I’ll tune my MP3 Player to this discarded album and reminisce about days long past, who I was and who I am now. Music is my time capsule.

- 56.2 GB Music Library
*Microsoft Zune is the best MP3 Player I have ever owned. I found that with the size of my music collection, locating albums and songs on the iPod Video was a chore. Its sad that iPod has developed such a trendy base of consumers because the Zune is far superior.
